How It Works

Unlike most home study CE courses, this Home Study certification is a fully mentored program. You will be working as closely as needed (you decide!) with your mentor via email + telephone for up to 9 months. You also may utilize our ONLINE STONE MASSAGE FORUM , which will be a good way to interact with other HSM students and participants free of charge. Course Overview

Healing Stone Massage is a science-based massage modality, utilizing ancient and modern principles of natural healing, thermotherapy and massage therapy for energy regulation and restoration. Our stone massage curriculum was written by nationally recognized author Carollanne Vedi Crichton("Earth Medicine & Healing Stones", also "Healing Stone Massage") and addresses a range of conditions safely and effectively and is easily applicable to Swedish, Sports, Myofascial, Acupressure, Ayurvedic, Reflexology, and Spa massage services. It is being utilized in spas, health centers, and wellness clinics around the world by LMT’s, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, estheticians and bodyworkers of all kinds. How is the training accomplished? • 75% HANDS ON • 25%  WRITTEN LEVEL ONE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: We offer 2 options in LEVEL 1: The CORE MODULE or the SPORTS MODULE. Here are the differences between these 2 LEVEL ONE MODULES: In the HSM CORE MODULE (17 CE) , massage therapists will learn the safe application of moderate heat to produce a relaxing therapeutic response in a bodywork session. 80% of the stone thermotherapy applications in CORE MODULE are in the warm temperature range. Foundation Protocol stones are not hot. The direct sustained application of warm moist heat produces venous dilation, increased circulation, and local diaphoresis, resulting in reduction of muscle tension and enhanced cleansing. The use of hot stones is reserved for active massage on the surface anatomy. Finally, a cooling moonstone facial will be introduced as a refreshing completion to the stone massage session. In the HSM SPORTS STONE MASSAGE MODULE (17 CE), massage therapists will establish remedial treatment protocols for various injury and training conditions, using all 5 temperatures (Warm, Hot, Cool, Iced, and "contrast"). Therapists will develop understanding and hand skills with stones: depth of pressure, dosage and timing of thermal applications. The direct sustained application of warm moist heat produces venous dilation, increased circulation, and local diaphoresis, resulting in reduction of muscle tension and enhanced cleansing. The use of hot and iced stonesin contrast therapy applications is practiced for injury rehabilitation. Deeper tissue massage is encouraged in this course than in the CORE MODULE. LEVEL TWO COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: In the Level 2 Certifications, therapists will select the topic that best suits his or her practice style. The options for your Level 2 studies are : A. STONE THERMOTHERAPY in SPORTS, DEEP TISSUE & INJURY REHABILITATION MASSAGE (17 CE) * This option is offered to those who did NOT choose the SPORTS STONE MASSAGE as their LEVEL I Topic B. STONE THERMOTHERAPY in MERIDIAN WORK (8 CE) C. PRENATAL CONSIDERATIONS IN STONE MASSAGE (8 CE) D. INTERNAL DETOXIFICATION PROTOCOLS of STONE MASSAGE (8 CE) E. AYURVEDIC PRINCIPLES OF STONE THERMOTHERAPY (8 CE) Practice sessions and Written exam accompanies the Level 2. All documents are mailed to you upon request. What are the Learning Outcomes? • Advanced Assessment Skills: Who should receive a stone massage? Who shouldn't? • Working with Stones in 5 Temperatures: NOT just "HOT" Stone Massage! • Treatment Strategies for Clinical and Spa settings 17 CE NCBTMB You will receive 2 full length training videos, plus the 145 page training manual. You will be asked to provide 5 sessions for your volunteer and record the progress. You will also get a portfolio including the needed documents for your practice and testing. When you are finished all of these will be mailed in to our school, and the certification will be processed within 7 days. Your mentor will review your work, and your "corrected" test plus a certificate for each course will then be mailed to you. A. QUALIFICATION NCTMB Continuing Education is for licensed, registered, or certified massage therapists and professional bodyworkers, as well as for enrolled students in an accredited professional curriculum of massage therapy training past their first 100 hours. Students must be proficient in basic massage skills, and familiar with anatomy, physiology and common pathologies. Basic massage will not be taught. Non licensed practitioners may complete the training but will not become certified to perform massage if they are not otherwise permitted to do so. B. CERTIFICATION All participants will receive a frameable certificate verifying the 17 hours for successful completion of each CORE MODULE & SPORTS MODULE, totaling 34 CE.  Depending upon the course selected for Level 2, you will earn an additional 8-12 CE, totaling 42 - 46 CE for your studies. There is a 9 month time limit on Home Study trainings. Certification from this massage training is not a substitute for licensure as a massage therapist. C. PRE REQUISITES: Prerequisite for LEVEL 2 TRAINING :  The HSM CORE MODULE or SPORTS STONE MASSAGE MODULE  or the equivalent from another stone massage course. If you have studied from another training provider, we will ask you to complete and pass our written exam, with $45 Portfolio Review fee.
